Friday Favorites

Welcome to Friday Favorites! If you’re new to the blog, here’s how to play along. Every Friday I devote my post to showcasing awesome blog posts by other bloggers that I’ve read over the past week or two. Then, I invite you to do the same and link up. This is any easy way to share the love and find great new blogs.

First up this week is the post A Little Breakfast, A Big Lesson in Emotional Intelligence by Annie Fox. She writes about the lesson she learned in the importance of expressing emotions, and how that has changed her parenting. I think we probably all have things we’ve observed from our childhoods that we’d like to try different with our own kids.

Next is someone who (whom?) *gasp* I’ve met in real life! Kate is pretty famous in Twitter breastfeeding circles, and she has guest posted on this blog before. Kate’s post It’s Not Just Parenting Websites Promoting Similac’s Latest Ploy is in reference to the Babble incident that some of us wrote about earlier this week. Unfortunately, as Kate shows us, there are DOCTORS who are referring their breastfeeding patients to formula companies for advice. If a patient has questions about formula feeding their infant, by all means refer them to a formula company’s phone line! That would make sense! But a patient who is trying to be breastfeeding should be referred to places that have an interest in helping her succeed, not end up using their product.

Last but not least is a post I came across via Facebook yesterday. It’s written by Neil Kramer and entitled The Inconsiderate Breastfeeding Woman. I thought his account of observing a nursing mother and his main issue with her was really funny, and the comments are worth a read through as well!

Winter Crafts Blog Carnival

I know it doesn’t feel like it, but the winter holidays will be here before you know it! I love to make gifts for family members and friends: ornaments, wall decorations, baked goods, you name it. However, don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m having a hard time deciding on which crafts to make this year. Wouldn’t it be great if we could trade tried and true crafting projects with others? Get a been there/done that, here are some tips assessment, rather than just Googling random ideas?

So, Winter Crafts Blog Carnival 2010 was born! Here’s all you have to do to participate:

1) Sometime between now and the 24th, write a post detailing directions for a favorite craft. Make sure to include a picture!
2) Come back here anytime between next Tuesday, Sept. 21st and Friday the 24th and link up!
3) Visit the other blogs and get some great ideas!

Feel free to write and link up more than one post!

Also, please let other people know about this blog carnival. The more participants, the more ideas we’ll all have to draw from! Post to Facebook! If you’re on Twitter, use the hashtag #wintercrafts (feel free to use a tweet like: Need gift ideas? Join in the #WinterCrafts Blog Carnival, hosted by @MarfMom: http://bit.ly/dpX8lD).

Any questions? Leave them in the comments! 🙂

* Note: Crafts do NOT have to be winter-themed! They just need to be something you can use as a gift. Some of the ones I show will be Christmas decoration themed, but not all of them.
